Hello Managers!  It's ‘Corporate Entrepreneur’ time…

The pandemic has affected our lives in countless ways.  Staying home for so long resulted in a detachment from our work and brought all kinds of insecurities into our lives.  Most companies are also struggling to survive in the aftermath.  People are opting to quit their jobs and look for other options to earn money and live a fulfilled life.

Another scenario is one in which companies have terminated their work force to cut expenses, keeping only the essential and capable. Then there are those companies that offer for ex-employees to rejoin the team.

The impact of all related factors is huge on organizations as well. With most people working from home, there is a lack of interpersonal relations among employees and bonding with the organization suffers. As a result, team building under the given circumstances becomes a Herculean task.

No one is to be blamed.  All of these rapid changes in the work environment give no sense of belonging to employees and in turn, workers don’t feel a sense of responsibility for their efforts. This detachment not only affects the employee’s personal and professional growth, but the overall performance of the company as well. In addition, employees’ mental and physical health becomes a major concern.

Even though the consequences for all are strong, we cannot ignore the need to improve employee performance.

So, what is the solution?

Well whenever there is chaos, we all need someone to motivate us and provide direction.  In this case, such responsibility usually falls on the shoulders of corporate managers.  The time when a manager could simply act like an employee and be appreciated for their effort and performance is over.

Corporate employees need to be ‘Corporate Entrepreneurs’ in today’s world.

Being an employee is not enough for the managers of today.  They must understand the needs of the time and act as leaders.  Leaders who can guide, motivate, inspire and bind their teams together.  And such an action can be taken only when they have an Entrepreneurial Mindset.

Entrepreneurial mindset helps instill a sense of ownership and belonging within the company.  Without this mindset, an individual cannot feel truly responsible and take initiative.

An entrepreneurial mindset is when you take ownership and responsibility and treat the organization as if it is your own. With this mindset, you do not hesitate to make decisions for the welfare and growth of the organization. You think like a leader, build great teams, and inspire your team members to be responsible and innovative.

Challenges become Opportunities

There are always new opportunities emerging.  A manager with an entrepreneurial mindset not only recognizes opportunities coming their way but also works on executing innovative ideas.  Facing challenges also becomes easier with such a mindset and managers are able to think of solutions with the best alternative rather than focusing on the problem. This change in perspective helps in dealing with situations more effectively and impacts the organization and fellow employees in every possible way to grow and thrive.

Team Work

When a manager starts thinking like an entrepreneur, their employees look up to them. Teams are focused on working towards a common goal and a person with such a mindset not only builds great teams, but also keeps them inspired as well.

Innovation and Creativity

When there is motivation and encouragement from managers, more innovative ideas and the creative execution of these ideas takes place.

Higher productivity, enhanced performance:

Entrepreneurial mindset means realizing the cognitive variety of every individual and providing opportunities to present ideas in a fruitful way  because all are working towards an organizational goal.  As a result, this mindset brings significant improvement to the overall performance of the team, the individual, and the organization as whole. In addition, there won’t be an attrition factor to worry about and every member gets to share knowledge.

Employee retention and growth

With managers thinking like entrepreneurs, employees feel more responsibility and go out of their way to complete given tasks. Moreover, working with a team in this manner changes lengthy and boring project work into fun collaboration and there are better rates of employee retention and enhanced performance.

Job Security vs. Secure Environment

Since an entrepreneurial mindset means working as an entrepreneur, there is a certain freedom to make decisions and act accordingly.  Even if there are mistakes, an entrepreneur prefers to take it as a learning experience for all instead of humiliating or insulting team members. Such a mindset thus provides job security as well as helps to create a secure environment for all involved.

While it is immensely important for corporate managers to change their mindset from employee to entrepreneur, companies should also consider recruiting new staff that already have the potential for  decision making and efficient team management.

Our Entrepreneurial Mindset Development Programs work on creating insights, and opening up a wider vision and methodology for personal growth and the growth of the entire organization.
